Healthy “Easter” Snack Idea

Chocolate Chia Smoothie – taken from March 2015 of Natural Medicine

This is basically a healthy green smoothie hiding behind a bit of naturally-sweetened cacao. Chia seeds are among the healthiest foods on the planet. They are loaded with nutrients and are especially high in antioxidants, Omega 3 fatty acids, fibre and good quality protein.

Ingredients:

  • ½ banana, peeled
  • 1 cup tightly packed fresh spinach
  • I cup ice
  • 1 cup of milk or even better, almond milk
  • 3 Tbsp. of chia seeds
  • 2 Tbsp. unsweetened cacao powder
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

 Directions:

Add all the ingredients to a blender and pulse until smooth. Serve immediately.
