HEALTHY STOCKING FILLERS FOR ALL

It’s that time of year when shopping for festive season gifts tends to take over our lives and the panic sets in as the shopping list grows. This year, why not treat someone special to something that will inspire and motivate them to achieve and stick to their health goals?

Here are Patrick’s favourite stocking fillers for friends and family focused on their health:

  1. Liquid form.
If water be the source of life, spoil your loved ones this year with a water bottle that they can carry around with them and stay hydrated all the time. There are so many cool, funky and classic water bottles on the market at the moment that is an easy present to find. If you’re buying a plastic one, look for the BPA-free sticker which means the plastic is free from nasty chemicals that, over time, can seep into the water in the bottle, contaminating it and basically defeating the purpose! Even better, look for one that filters the water within the bottle meaning there’s always safe drinking water within arms’ reach.
  2. Oh, sweetie.
Over the course of the festive season, it pretty much rains chocolate. Cleverly they’re often packaged as perfect little bite-size morsels of goodness, making the ideal little stocking filler. But think about it like this – would you give someone a vial of poison as a gift? We would hope not! Chocolate, which in general contains more sugar and trans-fats than cocoa, is pretty much that – poison to the body. If there are any chocolate lovers on your shopping list, get them some “unroasted”, 70% or higher, dark chocolate for their stocking. They’ll love you for it. If you’re still not convinced, here’s what you need to know about chocolate.
  3. Turning the page.
Patrick’s latest culinary offering, ‘Delicious, Healthy, Sugar-Free’ is the gift that keeps on giving. It’s not only a beautiful looking cook book but is also jam-packed with delicious, healthy recipes that don’t compromise on taste, despite being sugar-free. This book is essential reading for anyone who wants to feel and look healthier and boost energy levels, without disappointing their taste buds.Find out more about Patrick’s latest book, Delicious, Healthy, Sugar-FreePatrick has written a wide selection of books covering a range of health and nutrition issues, that are a great gift idea and are available at leading bookstores nationwide.
  4. Limber up.
Exercise helps to boost your mood which increases the feel-good endorphins as well as serotonin levels. Vital-energy-generating’ exercises, such as yoga and t’ai chi can also have many positive benefits on someone’s mood. Exercises like this are designed to generate energy and bring focus to the moment to create mindfulness. For any ‘yogi’ friends or family members you think could do with some meditation, encourage their efforts by giving them a yoga mat. With so many different kinds to choose from, available in different colours and patterns, this one will quickly be ticked off your shopping list.
